VALRAG is a program dedicated to offering ritual assistance to those Blue Lodges in need of help in conferring the three Craft degrees of Freemasonry. The concept of the program is to build a database of Brethren from which to draw from if the Valley is asked to provide help to a given Lodge in need or the services of Valrag.
We have added a new username and password security measure to the VALRAG section. In order to get these, please contact Tom Hamilton.
Please note that even though this is a Scottish Rite program, you do not need to be a member of Scottish Rite to participate. If you are into working the Craft degrees and wish to help out in anyway, simply go to the Valley of South Bend’s website at www.southbendscottishrite.org and go to the “Valrag” option. Once there you will go to “add a new member” and fill out the parameters. You do not need to fill out all the personal information, just enough so you can be contacted. If a brother slating a degree contacts the officer assigned to monitor Valrag and asks for certain lectures to be performed, the officer will then type in the parameters and provide names and a means to contact them as the list dictates.
If you have already submitted your information to enter Valrag thank you very much. For those interested please take the time to enter this program as it is truly a brotherly effort to make sure our Lodges continue to provide a solid base from which our new candidates can build from.
If you are in need of help with Degree Work, you can email Tom Hamilton or Call him @ 574 536 8129
Our Mission
The Knights of St. Andrew is made of an elite unit select Scottish Rite Masons.
The Knights of St. Andrew exist as a service organization on behalf of all members of their Consistory. They are under the immediate supervision of the Secretary of their Scottish Rite Consistory and provide services where they are needed. This includes, but not limited to, aiding the Tylers, acting as greeters, providing escort services for dignitaries or for special events created for the ladies during reunions or other functions, serving as guides, assisting the Scottish degree work, helping present the Colors. Knights of St. Andrew also assist in the calling committees, participate in parades or civic activities, promote fund-raising events, and aid in any special event. The list can continue on as new ideas and concepts are developed to meet needs and goals.
Their flexibility and enthusiasm make the Knights of St. Andrew one of the Valley’s most active and desirable organizations. It is an excellent way to nurture and develop future leaders as they learn their organizational and leadership skills, explore the inner structures of their Scottish Rite Centers, and thus gain a deeper admiration for our Order and Brethren who work in Freemasonry as a whole.

The 17th degree, Knight of the East and West and the 18th degree Knight of Rose Croix of H.R.D.M., known as the Philosophical and Doctoral Degrees of the Scottish Rite are conferred in a Chapter of Rose Croix. They open a new development of Masonic teaching and are a distinct departure and advance from the symbolism of the Symbolic Lodge and of the preceding Scottish Rite degrees.
These deal with the teaching of Jesus, as Teacher, Prophet and Martyr. Whatever your religious faith, you are encouraged to ponder the philosophy and teachings of the Nazarene, especially the doctrine of fraternal love and service toward all mankind. You will learn how the three cardinal virtues of Freemasonry, Faith, Hope and Charity were so beautifully illustrated in the life of Christ. These lessons give spiritual underpinning to the central Masonic concept of “The Brotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God.” The Rose Croix Degrees are the spiritual center and among the most important in the whole body of Freemasonry.

The 15th degree, Knight of the East and the 16th degree, Prince of Jerusalem are often referred to as historical degrees in Scottish Rite Freemasonry and constitute an allegorical narrative presenting the story of a captive people who “wept beside the rivers of Babylon” when liberated they were consecrated to the task of building the second Temple or rather rebuilding the Temple of Solomon. The entire pageantry and symbolism of Freemasonry revolves around the construction of the four Temples of Yahweh, by a brotherhood dedicated to the erection of a perfect edifice at Jerusalem and later building a Temple in the hearts of men. Contrasted the hauteur of imperious monarchs, is the humility of the little group of those born to bondage pleading for the redress of an ancient wrong. The lessons in the 15th and 16th degrees are from these elements of the historical drama which transpired during the reigns of the Great Kings, Cyrus and Darius.

In the Lodge of Perfection (4th-14th degrees), the Mason consecrates himself to the Masonic endeavor – character building. He is taught to venerate the virtues of the dead and emulate those of the living; to respect the rights of others, to strive to render service to his fellow man, to refrain from assuming prerogatives and powers that are not his, to be not overzealous in a good cause, to reverence Diety, avoiding disrespect, and to control his tongue by maintaining in his mind purity of thought. He is taught Perfection is but one of the fundamentals of character. The other two are Self-respect and Integrity. These lessons learned and applied to life are absolutely essential to a complete character structure.
